MAORIS APPRECIATE ST. JOHN SERVICE

St. John Ambulance Brigade received high praise at the first 1938 meeting of the Maori Kotahilanga—the newly-instituted committee for furthering the interests of Maoris in Northland.

Mr E. Taylor (Whangarei), in bringing the matter to the notice of members, made particular reference to the work of the Whangarei division in bringing to hospital cases of illness from outlying districts. It was, he said, a service that was much appreciated by the Maoris. Several speakers, including Mr Reihana (Whangarei), Mr J. Palmer (Whananaki) and Mr J. Shortland spoke along similar lines.

It was decided that members of the committee should canvass their own districts with the object of assisting the funds of the Whangarei division of the St. John Ambulance Brigade.
