MR. CHAMBERLAIN TO CALL CABINET MEETING?

(Received 10 a.m.) LONDON. January 9. The increasingly grave situation in the Far East will be the first subject that the Prime Minister, Mr Chamberlain, who is in charge of the Foreign Office during Mr Eden’s holiday, will consider when he goes to Downing Street from Chequers tomorrow. He is expected to call an emergency meeting of all the members of the Cabinet, who have already returned to London. The diplomatic correspondent of the “Sunday Times” points out that the official report of the assault on Settlement police has not reached London, but the possibility of firmer action than merely demanding an indemnity and an apology will be examined, although it is difficult to see any alternative to it. Half-A-Million Fleeing Before Jap. Advance (Received 10 a.m.) TOKIO, January 8.
