A. D. Brown, of Auckland, who was recently seen in Whangarei in exhibition matches against A. C. Stedman, won the North Island singles tennis title at New Plymouth on Saturday. He was matched against V. Sturt, who was not at the top of his form, and Brown was always superior. Brown excelled in all departments, impressing with low-flighted drives, smashes and positional play. Results: — Men’s Singles.—Final: A. D. Brown beat V. Sturt, 6—4, 6 —2. Ladies’ Singles Championship.— Final: Miss M. Beverley beat Miss O. J. Taylor, 6—2, 6—4. Girls’ Championship Singles.—Final: Miss J. Hunter beat Miss B. Warren, 6—4, 4—6, B—6. Cambined Championship Doubles.— Semi-final; Sturt and Miss N. Beverley beat McCarthy and Miss Griffiths, 6 —3, 6 —2; Gunn and Miss M. Beverley beat Miss Taylor and Shaw, 6 —4, 6—3. Men’s Championship Doubles. —Semifinal: Brown and Mayson beat Jenkin•son and Dold, 6—4, 6—4. Boys’ Singles.—Final: A. McCracken beat T. Crone, 6—3, 6 —5. Men’s Doubles. —Third round: Brown and Mayson beat McCarthy and M. Dickie, 6—3, 6—3. Smi-final: Sturt and Gunn beat the Dickie brothers, 2 —6, 6—2, B—6. Combined Doubles.—Third round: Miss Beverley and Gunn beat Miss Bright and E. Dickie, 6 —fi, 6—l.
