GISBORNE IN GRIP OF HEAT WAVE
[Special To “Northern Advocate ”J GISBORNE, Tins Day. Gisborne still continues to sutler trom a heat wave which commenced prior to the holidays. On Christmas Day there was a maximum shade temperature of 85.4 decrees, this setting a record for the summer up to that date, but since then greater temperatures have been recorded. The temperature on New Yen's S),?y was 8(i, am! on Thursday lariat the aerodrome climatological station a temperature of 01 degrees was recorded. On the same day 07 degrees were registered at Waikarae Beach. Employees at freezing works felt the conditions so noticeably that they were falling out of (lie line, ultimately work being'abandoned for the day. c3n Wednesday the temperature again reached 86 degrees, the reading at nine o’clock yesterday morning being as high as 80 degrees. Although it; advanced several degrees during the day. a coo! breeze later brought considerable relief. Every day in the last fortnight has seen the temperature above the 72degree mark, the lower night reading in that period being 54 degrees.
