Plans Drastic Changes In British Army
LONDON. January 3. THE “DAILY HERALD” STATES THAT THE SECRETARY FOR WAR, MR L. HORE-BELISHA, SHORTLY WILL ANNOUNCE THE MOST DRASTIC RECONSTRUCTION OF THE BRITISH ARMY WHICH HAS EVER OCCURRED IN PEACE OR WAR.
He is aiming at a force which, although small, shall be most intensively mechanised, groups of half a dozen men possessing the striking force of a former battalion.
The Military Budget for 1938 will exceed £100,000.000,
This will enable half the infantry to be equipped with machine-guns, instead of rifles, arid will make possible the delivery of hundreds of new type, high-speed tanks, also the complete mechanisation of the artillery and reequipment of the territorial anti-aircraft defence forces with guns, searchlights and sound locators.
