CAPTAIN BURGESS IS A NATIVE OF —?
[Special To “Northern Advocate”! CHRISTCHURCH, This Day, At the official reception yesterday at Lyttelton in honour of the arrival of the Centaurus, the Mayor of Lyt>telton„ Mr. F. E. Sutton, started a disj cussion which led to rivalry among several parts of the Dominion for the honour of claiming as a native Captain J. W. Burgess. The Hon. H. T. Armstrong. Minister of Labour, said that Auckland had been first to claim Captain Burgess, then the Minister of Education had claimed him for Wellington, and now the Mayor of Lyttelton had put in a claim, and he supposed that as the flying-boat went south Dunedin would make a further claim. He added that Captain Burgess should keep the exact spot of his birth a secret, otherwise it may be that a town without a harbour might be demanding to see the Centaurus and her crew, which may prove embarrassing. Captain Burgess, when replying, said that he was not born in Lyttel- ! ton, although he had spent many years there. | It was later discovered by a rej porter that Captain Burgess was born in Dunedin.
