200 Snapper In Two Hours At Houhora

Mr Milton Russ and party, of Kaikohe, who spent the Christmas weekend at Houhora heads, described this place as one of the most beautiful spots on the New Zealand coast. It is ideal for bathing, being particularly safe, and the fishing is fine. Two of the party secured 200 snapper in two hours with lines, and they saw nine kingfish caught from another boat in 10 minutes.

Mr Russ stated that when he hauled in one kingfish. a school of what appeared to be thousands of the same species were swirling round the boat within arm’s reach.

Mr Russ reported the roads to be In good order, except that the surface was inclined to be rough, with potholes in places.
