CLOUDBURST AT WAIRUA FALLS
Although lasting only a short time, a cloud-burst at the Wairua Falls yesterday left at least one party drenched to the skin. Leaving their car parked some distance from the falls, the visitors were amazed a few minutes later to find a tropical downpour coming out of what had been a comparatively clear sky. So heavy was the rain that they were obliged to shelter under tiees, but they might just as well have remained out in the open, for in a few moments they were drenched to the skin.
When the deluge eased oil' they returned to their car to find that its wheels had become firmly embedded in the soft clay, which by now was churned up in a mixture of mud and water.
With the aid of tea-tree, however, the car was at length brought off the clay formation and was driven into town.
