Methodist Church Renovations
Community sings, under the able leadership of the Rev. A. Sanft, were a popular activity in Hikurangi during the winter just past. ‘‘Sing and be happy” was the guiding spirit in these functions, and great emphasis was not laid on the fact that money collected was for renovations to the Methodist Church.
Contributions, however, were freely made, and about £4O was raised for that object.
For the past fortnight work has progressed on the roof of the building, which has now been completely recovered with * iron. An unexpected difficulty was encountered when it was discovered that the boards inside the roof had warped badly, and these had all to be removed, clamped, and replaced before the work could proceed. It is also planned to repaint the interior and exterior of the' building. The church grounds are also to receive attention, and additional lawns are to be laid down.
The Rev. A. Sanft, Minister in charge, said yesterday that the work was well in hand and it was hoped to have it completed early in the New Year. Great Road Improvements Throughout the Christmas season, the road between Hikurangi and Whangarei has been in constant use. Attracted by the bright lights and festive crowds, people of the district have been visiting Whangarei in ever increasing numbers. The road to town is in excellent order. At Ruatangata the overhead ramp across the railway line has been open to traffic for some months, and in recent weeks great progress has been made on the Snake .Hill Road. Bad turns have now been completely eliminated and the through road is open to all traffic. The new bridge just off the bitumen strip by the Kamo Springs has not yet been completed and care should be exercised at this point.
