Drowned While Trying’ To Rescue Wife

A drowning accident occurred in the V/aikato River yesterday afternoon, the victim being Mr Frederick Wilson, aged 47 years, of Cockle Bay, Howick. It was when making a brave effort to assist his wife, who was in difficulties while bathing, that Mr Wilson lost his life. He plunged into the river in an attempt to reach her. but was swept away by the swift current.
Other members of their party threw a life-belt attached to a line to Mrs Wilson, and brought her to the shore. Mr Wilson, who was foreman of the joinery factory of the Fletcher Construction Co.. Ltd., at Penrose, had been camping at Wairakei with his wife.
