WASHED OFF ROCKS AT PIHA
[Special To “ Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day.
Washed off Lion Rock, at Piha. yesterday afternoon, Mr William John Shaw, aged 53, of 14 Kowhai Street, Kingsland, was drowned.
Mr Shaw, who had been staying at Fiha, went fishing from the northern side of the rock at about 2 o’clock. Two and a half hours later some people on the beach noticed something floating in the water and attracted the attention of the surf life-saving patrol, a member of which swam out from the beach for a distance of 130 yards, where he found Mr Shaw’s cpat floating. i
Thirty yards further on he discovered the body of Mr Shaw.
A high surf was not running at the time, and it is not known how the accident occurred.
