POPE ATTACKS NAZI PERSECUTION
(Receved 10 a.m.)
LONDON, December 26.
The Pope vigorously attacked the German church policy when he received the Cardinals, states a Vatican City message. He said there was real and actual religious- persecution in Germany, in spite of efforts to present a contrary impression. A Berlin despatch says that the official news agency there accuses the Pope of fostering hatreds and making unfounded statements.
It is learned that a number of pastors recently released will only enjoy liberty during the Christmas holidays, after which they will be ordered to return to prison, says a Berlin mes-
sage. Bishop Nieumoller’s request to have Christmas out of prison was refused.
