Bazaar At Oruru
The annual bazaar of the Oruru Ladies’ Methodist Guild was held in the Oruru hall on November 25, and proved a most successful function, the guild clearing the sum of £75. The stalls looked very pretty decorated with pale shades of pink, green and lemon streamers, and lemon poppies with asparagus and maidenhair fern. The bazaar was opened by the Rev. A. Johnson.
The stall-holders were: Clothing, Mesdames J. Forsyth and Hagan and Miss C. Garton; fancy, Mrs A. Forsyth. Misses M. Forsyth and C. Garton; Bible Class. Misses N. Taylor and M. Forsyth; arts and crafts, Rev. A. and Mrs Johnson; cakes, Mesdames Walmsley and E. Taylor, Misses C. Mclnnes and P. Handball; produce, Mesdames Barriball and Frew; sweets (Sunday School), Misses Merle Taylor. Joan Garton and Barbara Hagan; bran tub. Masters Ralph Taylor and Ray Hagan; ice creams. Miss M. Forsyth; tearooms, Mesdames T. Taylor, A. Garton, Edmonds and Maddox.
Competitions resulted; —Weight of iced cake, Mrs G. Taylor; picture, Miss Merle Taylor; honey, Mrs Hagan; chocolates, Miss B. Hagan and Mr T. Wrathall; sponge cake with butter, Mrs T. Taylor; tartlets, Mrs J. Garton; Napoleon cake, Mrs T. Taylor; madeira cake. Miss Flora Forsyth: the judge was Mrs Metcalfe; nail driving, Mr W. Adams; quoits (men), .Mr W. Garton, (ladies), Mrs Hagan. Children’s section: Flowers. Joan Garton 1, Merle Taylor 2, Nancy Jacentho 2; writing, Barbara Hagan L Ruth Jacentho 2. Theda Lambly 3; handwork, Theda Lambly 1, Ray Hagan 2, lan Foster 3. The judges were Mr and Mrs Hilford. Mrs John Garton. president of the guild, thanked all who had helped to make the bazaar such a success. ' Personal. Mr and Mrs A. Forsyth have left to take up residence in Helensville. Miss A. Fairley, of Whangarei, has been the guest of Mrs J. Forsyth, of Oruru. Miss Donovan, of Auckland, is visiting her sister, Mrs T, J. Garton, of Oruru.
