(Received 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, December 12. •rpilE NEWSPAPER. “THE PEOPLE/’ SAYS THAT SECRET EFFORTS • are BEING MADE TO SECURE 40 YEARS OF PEACE IN EUROPE ON THE FOLLOWING BASIS:— Recognition of Italy's conquest of Abyssinia. Colonies to be given to Germany a? the result of a conference of Powers possessing colonies. Separation of League’s Covenant from the Versailles Treaty. Abandonment of the sanctions clause, in return for independence of the new Spain. Guarantee of present European boundaries by Italy and Germany. A pact of non-aggression to be signed by Italy, Germany, Britain and France. Mr Eden, the paper says, is hopeful of reaching a settlement on these lines.
