There was a quieter tone on the Auckland Stock Exchange this morning, and only moderate business was recorded at the first call. There were, however, a few bright features in the fresh bidding. •
There was a better inquiry in the banking section, with special attention directed to New South Wales, for which buyers moved up to £33, with 5/ less offered for script oh the Sydney Amongst Australian issues, purely metal shares, such as Electro Zinc's, Lyells and Morgans, were a little easier, but other industrials, notably Broken Hill Proprietary and Australian Glass, were definitely firmer, the first-mentioned selling 1/9 up at £3 4/6, while buyers for Glass advanced to £4/12/ without securing transfers. G. J. Coles also improved, with a market between £4/5/3 and £4/6/. In Government stocks, recent easing in the long-term issues were confirmed in a sale of ’52-’55 bonds 5/ down, at £lO4/10/. At the noon call the following sales were completed: South British, £4 17/6; Dominion Breweries, preferred, £2; Australian Glass, £4/12/9; Dunlop Perdriau, £l/2/5; G. J. Coles, £4/5/9.
