'MORE than 500 acres of a G4O -acre plantation of flax at Mungarca Valley, Hutt county, valued at hundreds of pounds, has been destroyed in a spectacular fire, which lit up the entire valley and at times was a vast area of flame 20 feet high. The flax was the property of the Wellington Flaxgrowers’ Corporation, Ltd.--(Special.,* HpHE Auckland Education Board has more than 30 applications from country districts for the consolidation of schools. Some are awaiting a decision, and ethers are at present before the Education Department for gr'ants to carry out the work. Among the consolidation proposals is one for the Oruaiti, Oruru. and Paranui Schools at Mangonui.— (Special.)
