Stock Exchange Generally Dull
[Special To “Northern Advocate"’] AUCKLAND, This Day. The trend of business on the Stock Exchange was much the same this morning as it was yesterday. There was keen interest in a few selected Australian industrials, and very little in the average of the securities listed. The banking section was dull, and sellers of E.S. and A. dropped back to £5/8/ without attracting a counter from buyers. Nationals were again on offer at £2/17/ and a buyer came in at 2/- less. Goldsbroughs had a reported sale 8d up at £l/11/6, and at the call buyers offered £l/11/, with no sellers. There was a fair inquiry in the coal section, but timbers and woollens were completely neglected. Breweries, too, were dull, the only buyers being for New r Zealands, at £2/4/6, and for Tooths, at £2/11/6. Broken Hill Proprietary were a shade easier between £3/1/6 and £3/2/ and the new issue, 5/ paid, had quotations from £l/13/ to £l/15/. Bidding was active for Mt. Lyells, the market closing between £l/12/10 and £l/13/3. and Mt. Morgans were steady at 11/7. ( Woolworths (Sydney) added to yesterday’s gains with business at £l/5/4 and £l/5/10, and the New Zealand issue had a market between £4/5/ and £4/11/. Government stocks were easier, and for the 1952-55 issue buyers stopped at £lO4. Sales completed at the noon call to-day were:—National Bank of New Zealand, £2/16/-; Bank of New Zealand, £2/4/8; Pukemiro Coal, 18/6; Auckland Gas, £l/1/; Colonial Sugar, £45/10/; Farmers’ Trading, £1; Woolworths (Sydney), £l/5/10; Waihi Investments, 9/5; Mt.
