HORA HORA PARK IMPROVEMENTS

After conferring with Messrs C. G. H. Hedditch and G. Grant (Cricket Association), L. Garry (Rugby Union), and R. T. Tudehope (Basketball Association) the parks committee? recommended to the Whangarei Borough Council last night; that the major scheme costing £490 for the improvement of Hora Hora Park be proceeded with.

The recommendation was adopted. The park is 3£ acres in extent. Alternative schemes were reported upon at the previous meeting of the council by the engineer, who outlined the major proposal as follows: —

That the gradients of* the field, bo

one in 100 both in a north-south and east-west direction. This grade is the steepest which it is advisable to have on any playing field and any steeper grade would be apparent to the players. It is proposed that, the surface soil be removed from the area and stock piled, that the subgrade be excavated and filled to construction levels and the original soil spread over the area. The area it is proposed to level is rectangular with 250 feci frontage

to Te Mai Road and depth of 480 feet. Mr Cormack, in presenting his report, said that the major scheme had the advantage that the piecemeal construction could be undertaken and the work spread over throe tears.
