Mrs K. Pevats, of 38 Walton Street, has purchased Manaia House, Grey Street, and will take possession of the property tomorrow, December 1.

The retirement of Professor J. Rankine Brown, of Victoria University College, from the Senate of the University of New Zealand was announced yesterday. A meeting of the executive of the senate passed a resplution placing on record its- appreciation of his long service.

A luncheon guest of the Mayor and Mayoress today was Rev. Hain, the most venerable minister of the New Zealand Presbyterian Church. At the age of 93, Mr Hain is still remarkably fit and active, reads without glasses, and at the general assembly, held in Auckland recently, received a great ovation at the conclusion of his address. Twenty-six years ago he was minister at the church which Mr and Mrs Jones attended at Colac Bay, Southland. Mr Hain is the guest for another week or so of Mr and Mrs G. Allcock, Maungakaramea.
