Owing to the inclement weather conditions prevailing on Wednesday afternoon, the garden party in aid of the Plunket Queen funds, which was to have been held at Mrs R. W. Harold's residence, had to be rearranged In the form of an indoor party. Bridge,,competitions and games were played, and a thoroughly enjoyable time spent. Competitions were won by Mrs W, H. Moor (flower and guessing) and Mrs E. Wight (writing a telegram). A delightful afternoon tea was served, and a hearty clap accorded the hostess. The same programme was followed at a young people’s party in the evening, when a crowd arrived to join in the fun. Winners of competitions in the evening were: Mr Bruce Berry (guessing); Mr Don Stevenson (author competition); Miss V. Vaile and Mr R. L. Taylor (animal). The party was an undoubted success, both financially and socially. The official opening of the swimming baths for the 1937-38 season took place on Sunday last, when a large number of aquatic sports enthusiasts of both sexes were present. In the absence of the club president, Mr E. B. Berry, the captain, Mr R. T. Wright, reviewed the progress made by the club, and welcomed all who were present for the opening. He asked the co-operation of all the members in furthering the interests of the club, and mentioned that funds available .would be used for general improvement to the baths. Mr Wright then called for the club secretary, Mr E. Robinson, to take the official plunge, and declared the baths open. Snowball Dance, Tuesday night proved a winning night for the Plunket Queen committee’s function: a snowball dance. There was a good crowd and the dance was something of a a novelty. A huge snowman was one of the features, and the elegant supper was certainly another. Mesdames A. J. Edwards and J. Wyatt played extras. Prizes were given for almost every dance. The winners of the snowball one-step, for which dozens of snowballs were thrown around, wore Miss A. Pausina and Mr Geoff Ludbrook. Miss W. Bartle and partner won a spot, waltz, and Miss W. Phynn and partner a spot log cabin.
