Maori Woman Granted Leave To Appeal

Mr G. N. Morris, S.M., has granted the application by defendant, Maraea Harapete Heke, for a rehearing of the information that on November 2, she did commit mischief by wilfully damaging and destroying a quantity of bridge planking valued at £2.

The defendant is the Maori woman who has been so prominent in the northern news of late, and who, after a fairly long hunt, 'was captured by the police and dealt with at the last sitting of the Court at Kaitaia. She will be brought to Whangarei by Sergeant Claasen on the northern train tomorrow.
