Parakao School

Valuable recent additions to the school equipment include a modern seven-valve all-wave receiver, purchased through the Education Department from funds voluntarily subscribed. This is proving a valuable educational aid.

The purchase (also from funds raised by the pupils) of Mee’s Children’s Encyclopaedia has filled a long-felt want in the reference library. Swimming and life-saving have been 'ntroduced to the school curriculum, and good headway is being made in learning this useful art. Mr R. L. McNabb, head teacher, Farakao school, has received advice from the Education Department that he has been nominated for an exchange position under the South Australian Education Department. School Sweet Pea Show.

A very successful show was staged on Friday, and no doubt both pupils and adults profited much from the in? ception and work of the club. The judging was performed by Miss van Houtte, Mrs McNabb and Mr R L. McNabb, in co-operation with the children, who displayed keen interest throughout. Following are the results:

Collection of mixed colours: Dawn Neale and Kevin Neale equal 1, Murray Langman 2, Cliff Neale 3. Best vase of any one colour: Donald Wilson 1, Laurie Davidson 2, Murray Langman 3, Champion bloom of school: Dawn Neale 1, Kevin Neale and Donald Wilson equal 2, Cliff Neale 3,

Enthusiasm runs high, and some of the young competitors intend entering for the group competition in Whangarei.
