Mark Of Respect The Whangarei Bowling Club today ! delayed the commencement of afterI noon play until after the funeral of I the late Mrs McGregoi’, a daughter of Mr G. S. B. Morrison, a member of the club. , This courtesy is indicative of the esteem in which bowlers hold Mr Morrison, Vote of Sympathy. Before business commenced at the meeting of the Northland Dairy Conference held in Whangarei yesterday, a vote of sympathy to the relatives of the late Mr J. H. Hayward was carried in the usual manner. 'Tribute to the labours of deceased in connection with the dairy industry were paid by Messrs E. G. Appleton, F. Elliott. L. Reynolds, A. Taylor and E. S. Tremaine. 1 * « Coloured Moving Pictures. A fascinating hobby of Mr G. J. Hucker, Professor of Bacteriology, Cornell University, who is investi- j gating mammitis control in Now Zea- ! land, is the taking of coloured moving pictures. While in the Dominion he . has found time to capture several sub-' jocts which have afforded him great satisfaction—the Hua Falls, close-up of keas and an avalanche at Tasman 1 Glacier. Dr. and Mrs Hucker. who i are staying at the Commercial Hotel, : were this afternoon taken on a visit to Waro Limestone Rocks, and tomorrow will accompany Mr A. J. Murdoch | on a trip through the Waipoua and Trounson Park kauri forests. On these excursions Dr. Hucker is hoping to film several topics for his private screen, ;
Extraordinary enthusiasm still marks Henry Wilson’s sensational liquidation sale, now briskly proceeding. The firm’s sales are always looked forward to by the whole buying public of Northland, as a certain source of genuine bargains from every department in the Store.
Moercwa Grows Apace. Our Moerewa correspondent writes that building continues apace at that busy centre. The recent lire at the A.F.F.Co’s cooperage, where much joinery used to be turned out, meant a serious check to that company’s actviities in the building line, although three houses built for meat inspectors have been completed and are now occupied. A gang of men has been employed clearing up and dismantling what remained of the cooperage, and the works carpenters are setting about its re-erection. Mr D. Hudspith has recently built a large shelter for his trucks, with rooms attached —in corrugated iron—on a section near Oliria Junction Stores. Mr Tiros. Hawkin is having additions and alterations made to his residence in Pembroke Street. Many other section owners are contemplating building on their sections in the near future. It is hoped that the loan for which the county council is applying to establish a water supply will be forthcoming at an early date, as this is the one stumbling block to residents and intending residents in the western ar*ea.
Attention is drawn to the closingdown auction sale, to be held on Monday, at 10.30 a.nr., at K.K.K.. Bank St., Wlrangarei. The stock of the Newton branch (also closed down) has been transferred to Wlrangarei, and will be sold without reserve. These sales are now drawing to a conclusion. 953
