Ahipara Beach Township Association
A meeting of those interested in the development of the Ahipara Beach township was held in Mr N. L. Gurr’s office, Kaitaia, on Thursday. Mr G. Bradley presided over a good attendance.
The chairman, in opening the meeting, said that township had lately taken a new' lease of life. There had been a Progress League previously, but it was now defunct and as it had not been possible to get a local domain board, the control of the domain had to be taken over by the county council. Though there had been a lack of support in the past for the endeavours to push the township 'ahead, a new spirit had now been awakened, due to a growing interest in seaside sections since the township had been surveyed by the Crown, and there w T as every prospect of a fairly large community developing. The conditions complied with what was wanted by those seeking a pleasure resort during the summer and week-' ends, and with low-priced sections there was 'an excellent opportunity to have cottages or baches erected. The domain was well suited to its purposes, and had an area of 10 acres. Mr Bradley referred to the foresight of Mr N. L. Gurr, who had recognised very early the wonderful opportunities afforded the people of Kaitaia by the ..beach, which was so near as to be almost regarded as a suburb.
It was decided to form an organisation to be known as the Ahipara Beach Township Association and to Hold meetings monthly. Those eligible for membership are the residents and section-holders, and the objects are to promote the welfare of the township
and carry out the planting of trees and shelter belts.
It was decided to approach the Government with regard to road formation and to take steps to h'ave the Domain cleared, fenced and prepared for recreation purposes.
An executive committee was formed, consisting of Messrs Bradley (chairman) J. Paulson, N. L. Gurr, and H. A. Bagley (secretary and treasurer).
The subscription per annum was fixed at 10/ per member and it is hoped to raise funds by other means. It was stated that a letter had already been written to the Commissioner of Crown Lands requesting that sections 68 and 69, which form a triangle in a very desirable position be reserved for beautifying purposes,
