[Special to “Northern Advocate”! - Auckland, This pay. The Auckland City Council last night decided upon an increase of 3|d in the £ in the aggregate of the municipal rates for the current year. The figure for the current year will Re 4/3s. The total annual rateable value for 1937-38 pf all property on the city valuation roll is £ 2,673,305. The first instalment of rates demands will be issued early in July ps usual, and the 1938 date on which the payment of the 10 per cent, penalty for default, aeprues will be towards the end of January* > ■ Main Proposals. The main proposals contained in a financial statement presented the ]Maypr) Sir Ernest Davis, were;— (1) An increase of 3|d in the £' in rates. (2) The replacpmeht pf the differential w a ter rate- by a uniform rate, slightly increased to produce an additional £7OOO of revenue. / (3) budgeting for a total debit balance pf £45,023, of which £16,731 was on behalf of the municipal rating account and £28,000 on behalf of the separate waterworks account. (4) The abolition of a separate, sanitation rate* and the payment for refuse collection and destruction out of the general rates . < (5) A reduction of approximately £35,000 in the original estimates of expenditure.
