WHANGAREI’S CHANCES VANISH

Men Draw; Ladies Beaten ISpecial to “Northern Advocate ”] AUCKLAND, This Day. Whangarei’s chances of winning either the White Horse Cup or the Provincial Cup vanished this morning, when the men’s side could only force a draw' from Franklin B, and the ladies were beaten by Thames in the section finals. The position at the end of yesterday’s play was that Whangarei and Rodney* were equal with seven points at the head of the B section. This morning, Whangarei drew with Franklin, and Rodney defeated Walpa B. Thus, Rodney wins this section, and will play off with the winner of the A section. In the finals of the ladies’ B section today, Whangarei met and were defeated by Thames, being thus eliminated. Thames will meet Hauraki Plains in the semi-finals this afternoon, and the final against Auckland, the winner of the A section, will take place tomorrow. This morning’s results were:— White Horse Cup. Fifth Round. B section: Whangarei 0 drew with Franklin B 0; Rodney A 12 beat Waipa B 1. Provincial Cup. Final, B section: Thames 1 beat Whangarei A 0. Final, C section: Hauraki Plains 1 beat Waipa A 0. (See Page 9 for earlier results.)
