She has been lying at Clyde Quay, Wellington, for some time, while dismantling operations have been carried out, and she is shortly to make her last voyage. A NEW mark for the New Zealand ' ’ intermediate girls’ 100 yards backstroke was set in the municipal baths, Invercargill, last night by Miss Joyce McDonald, whose time was 77 4-ss. Her time was only 1 2-5 s outside the New Zealand women’s record, held by Miss Ena Stockley.—Press Assn. * » 9 9 fjpHE driving of the last spike of the Mohaka Viaduct will be performed next Tuesday by the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. R. Semple. Arrangements have been made for a fitting ceremony, in which the Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, will also take part.—Press Assn.
The remains of the late Sir Eric Geddes, head of Imperial Airways, and a wartime general. and admiral, will be cremated and the ashes scattered on the Imperial Airways air mail route.
