Listless Bidding On Stock Exchange
[Special to “Northern Advocate”} AUCKLAND, This Day. After a satisfactory turnover yesterday afternoon, business on the Stock Exchange was quiet. Only a small list was finalised at the first call, and fresh bidding was listless, with more blanks than usual on the buyers’ side. In the banking section there were few buyers. New Zealands were steady, with a market between £2 3/6 and £2 4/. Breweries were asked for, but buyers of Dominions and New Zealands dropped their offers 3d. Australian issues were dull, with quotations tending downwards. There were no buyers for Broken Hill Pty. or for Goldsbroughs. Offers for Mt. Lyells and Mt. Morgans were on a lower basis and G. J. Coles had a market between £5 and £5 3/6. Farmers’ Trading shares were quoted ex dividend between £1 0/6 and £1 1/, and Wilson’s Cement, ex rights, had a market between 19/ and £ll/.
Government stocks were steady and the 43-46 issue 1 sold unchanged at £ 104 2/6. At noon, the following sales were finalised: Commercial Bank (2), 18/4; Auckland Gas, £1 1/8; New Zealand Breweries, rights, £1 1/6; Broken Hill, £3 18/; Radio, 1936,. £1 3/6; Taranaki Oil, 4/; Mt. Lyells, £2 1/; Mt. Eden Borough Council, 45-50, £lO4 10/.
