CITY ONE POINT UP ON ’KARAMEA

A hard-fought game on No. 2 ground between ’Karamea and City resulted in a win for tjie latter by one point. Although the, handling and passing, in many instances, marred the play f the spectators were treated to many a thrill, both sides fighting hard for supremacy from- the start until time , was called. For the most part, ’Karamea appeared to shade their opponents, and were perhaps rather unlucky not to win. The splendid defence and line-kick-ing of Thorpe was a big feature -in saving City, who Were unfortunate in losing Lane through injury about half-way through the second spell. Taylor was a particularly hard worker for the City pack. He was quick to break away and started off some fine dribbling rushes. Strange, also,

did some good work, saying well on more than phe occasion when the home team was hard pressed. ,He could, with good advantage, l however, use his weight a little more in the scrum Conaghan again demonstrated his ability on the- wing, both in attack and defence. Morresey to the Fore.

P. Morresey Was a tower of strength to the country pack. He was in the van of practically every forward movement, and seemed t 6 be everywhere he was most needed. Sloane, also, was in great form, and, with Fletcher and H. Thomson, these four formed a formidable attacking force. McKenzie, on the wing, is a strong runner and tackles well. If given opr portunity he should prove a good scoring man for the country team. Quipn and Costello went well. The latter-, in particular, has a good cutin and does: not exploit it unduly. It would be interesting to see him in at first five-eighths. ' , ■

The kick from near the side line went wide. ’Karamea took the lead soon after when H. Thompson, dribbled the ball through the ruck arid McNeil, following up fast, picked up smartly and dived over. M. Morresey made no mistake with the kick. Just after half-time, Roos kicked a goal from a penalty well out. The game, from then on, became very fast and willing, each side coming within an ace of scoring, but the final whistle went with the score unchanged. .
