WHATITIRI HAVE ANOTHER CLOSE CALL
SENIOR B
Whatitiri had another close call in preserving their undefeated record, figuring in their second consecutive draw with Mangakahia, a team which is trailing the competition. Neither side registered on Saturday, although Whatitiri twice were in an ace of doing so. Shortland’s attempt at a drop kick missed by inches, and Cutforth, after backing up nicely, had only to take a pass to go across. Mangakahia fielded their heaviest team this season.
Little separated Manaia and Pipiwai in the senior B match at the park. A clever intercept by K. Hutchinson gave Manaia the opening try. T. Davis retaliated in a loose rush by Pipiwai forwards, and neither kick being converted, it was 3 all at the spell. The only score in the second half was gained by Michewski, giving the seasiders, a more finished side, a 6 3 success. For the winners, Mcßae, a High School player last season, McLaughlin, taking the place of Heffernan, now with North Shore seniors, and McGregor, were outstanding backs, and J. Hutchinson and Mahunga led the forwards. Pipiwai is an even side. Nlha gave good service as hooker.
