Sunday School Tea And Concert

In lieu-of their annual picnic, abandoned)owing to the' infantile paralysis restrictions, the: scholars’ of, Christ Church W Stmday ;■ School • Whangarei, were. entertained last ’ to- a sit-down tea, followed by a concert.

Fifty children gathered at the Parochial -Hall. where the Sunday School teachers, Mr F. G. ‘Ross (superintendent), and Mrs E. S. Elmsly, assisted by a strong committee, had arrangements well in hand. The feature of the concert programme was a one-act play, “Something Beal,” produced by Mrs Marsden Woods. The principal characters-:' were Mr Cecil Wright (Otaika). Miss Betty Cleary, Bruce McMillan, Peter Surman and Valentine Woods; The play was well acted, a

particularly pleasing feature being the composure of the young artists., and, the-, cpmmendable manner in which; they spoke their-lines. : ; Japanese' geisha girls made a fins s|lash of colour in % presenting, an entertaining tableau, 'the instigators- of which ware Mrs Ross and Miss Anita Flower. Numerous vocal and recitative items were given. Mrs G. Woolley was accompaniste and also led the community singing. ' T . Other items were: —Recitations by Alison Wilson, Avis Runciman, Pat Lambly, Ether Ross; songs by John and Jim McMillan 1 duet), solo, Bruce McMillan. “

Those taking part in the Japanese tableau were:—Anita Flower, Dorothy ' Symonds, Dawn Ross, Patricia Dumbly, Dora Kennet, Verna Hardgraves, Esther Ross, Judy Bedlington, Enid Runciman, Kathleen Heath, * Glen Shore, Betty. Patterson, Ngaerie Guy, Gwen Weston, Ruth Ross, and the following items were given: Songs: Duet, Anita Flower and ■ Dorothy Symonds; duet, Pat Lambly and Dora Kennet; trio, Esther Ross, Vera Hardgraves and Judy Bedlington; dance, Enid Runciman, Ruth Ross, Kathleen Heath, Glen Shore, Ngaerie Guy, Betty Patterson; song, Betty Patterson'; recitations, Vera Hardgraves, Gwen Weston; Ruth Ross, Enid Runciman,. Kathleen Heath.
