High Prices For Vegetables At Auckland

Prices ruling in the city markets for several classes of vegetables are extremely high owing to stocks being in short supply. The cauliflower and lettuce crops have failed, owing to climatic conditions and retailers are forced to pay rates which are uneconomic. For best cauliflowers, merchants are required to pay from 8/- to 12/- a sugar-bag of 10 to 15 cauliflowers. Lettuce are realising 10/- to 16/- a case. Retailers were losing about 5/- on each case that was sold.
