White Ensign Flown By Jff.M.S, New Zealand In
Battle Of Jutland
r Per Press Association. Copyright.'] WELLINGTON, This Day.
On one of the most interesting relics of H.M.S. New Zealand has been presented to the Dominion Museum. It is the white ensign flown by the battle cruiser during the battle of Jutland on May 31, 1916. Other relics from the ship rest in the museum, but this tattered piece of bunting is probably the most desirable of all. Accompanying the flag is a certificate written by Admiral Sir John Green, certifying that the ensign was flown on H.M.S. New Zealand during the battle of Jutland. Admiral Green was captain of the warship at the battle, and the flag was in his possession for twenty years afterwards. He retired from the Navy in 1927.
The flag has ben presented to the museum by Major and Mrs R. Hunter Blair, of Christchurch.
