The second day of the Hawera Trotting Club’s meeting was held yesterday in fine weather before a large attendance. The track was in good order after overnight rain. Unworthy created a great surprise by winning the Opunake Handicap, in which he was the outsider of the field and paid a very substantial dividend. The totalisator handled £ 15,337 .10/- for the day, compared with £11,459 10/- last year, making the total for the meeting £29,724, compared with £20,875 10/- last year.— Waimate Plains Handicap, of 300 sovs, and trophy valued at 25 sovs; two miles.— (2-3) Red" Flush, 60yds, 1; (1-1) U.
