Kaitaia Building Site A Permit Refused

Mr Alf Gray applied at a special meeting of the Kaitaia Town Board on Wednesday, for a permit to convert the old public library building into a private dwelling. It was pointed out that the application did not conform to the by-law, which provided that a residential section must not be less than one-fifth of an acre or have less than a 40-foot frontage. The chairman (Mr Taaffe) said it was not a case which could be met by relaxing a little, as the section fell very far short of what was required. The only way would be for Mr Gray to acquire part of the adjoining land.

Mr L. Peace: There must be 50 sections in the town which did not comply with the by-law.

Mr Taaffe: But not to the same extent as in the present case. Mr Clark: There is only one-third of what the by-law requires. Mr Peace said he saw no objection to the building being used as a residence provided the outside walls were not altered and the consent of the Health Department was obtained., It was decided on the motion of Mr Clark, seconded by Mr Peace, to refuse the application.

Messrs J. T. B. Taaffe and W. H. Atkins applied for approval of a subdivision of building, section opposite the hospital in Redan Road as resurveyed. As the application was in accordance with the by-laws it was granted. '
