MANY NEW MEMBERS FOR WHANGAREI CLUB
Golf
There was an attendance of 70 members at the annual meeting of the Whangarei Golf Club last night. The president, Dr. H. F. Buckley was in the chair.
The report and balance sheet, as published, was adopted. The following officers were elected: President, Dr. H. F. Buckley (reelected); vice-president, Mr. L. A. Johnson; captain, Mr. W. A. Christiansen; vacancies on the committee, lady, Mrs D. Cook; men, Messrs W. J. Glanville and R. Grey; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. T. Surman; auditor, Mr S. C. Thorne.
Eighteen debentures of £5 each were redeemed.
A notice of motion by Mrs J. M. Lynch that rule 11 in the ladies’ section be altered by substituting the words “Vice Captain” for “Vice President,” was carried.
The president’s notice of motion that Mr. Sam Lamb be appointed a life member in appreciation of his services to the club, was carried.
Thirty-five new lady members and 21 men were elected. There were 22 resignations, 11 men and the same number of ladies.
Opening day was fixed for Saturday, April 3, when mixed foursomes over 18 holes will be played.
A motion, of thanks to the donors of the Sam Lamb Cup, Dr. Buckley and Messrs D. J. Thomson and L. R. Nelson, was carried. It was reported that, extensive remodelling was being undertaken at the 18th hole, and a new practice putting green has been laid down. Alterations' are being made to the men’s part of the club house, a large lounge being constructed, and a new locker room.
