Big Melbourne Drapery Firm Closing Down

(Recived 10 a.m.) MELBOURNE, March 22. The firm of Craig, Williamson Ltd., owner of a large drapery emporium in Elizabeth Street, Melbourne, of 63 years’ standing, is to be .closed on Thursday. The business has been in the hands of receivers for some time. The premises were offered for sale by auction last week, but the highest bid was £335,000 below the reserve, and the property was passed in. Tenders were called for the purchase of the stock and book debts, and they were opened today. It is announced that Anthony Horderns. Sydney, purchased the stock and that Ball and Welch, Melboui’ne, bought the book debts. The advertised values were: —Stock. £131.022; book debts, £56,746. Most of the members of the staff are being absorbed by other Melbourne firms.
