A double by Te Hal, who accounted for the Merries Memorial Handicap and the Railway Handicap, was the feature'of the concluding day’s racing ■ of the Bay of Plenty Racing Club yesterday. * The totalisator investments were £21,442 10/-, against £18,183 on the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £49,760, compared witn £40.855 10/- last year, an increase of £8,904 10/-. Results: — Merries Memoi’ial Handicap, of 250 sovs; one mile. —(2-1) Te Hai, 7.7, 1; (6-4) Winlona, 7.11, 2; (1-1) Respectful, 7.12, 3. Nine started. Half a head; a head. Time —1.40. Stewards’ Handicap, of 110 sovs; six furlongs.—(4-4) .Okawa, 7.9, 1; (2-2) Clooneen, 7.7, 2; (3-3) Grand City, 8.3, 3. ' Nine started. A head; two lengths Time —1.14 1-5. Matakana Highweight Handicap, of 130 sovs; one mile.—(3-3) Jewelled Girdle, 9.3, 1; (1-2) Brown Lap. 9.3, 2; (5-5) Gadger, 8.5, 3. Eight started. A short neck; a length. Time--1.42 1-5. Hairini Handicap, of 120 sovs; seven furlongs.—(2-2) Haille Boy, 7.10, 1; (3-3) Gay Rebel, 7.6, 2; (9-9) Keno, 7.7, 3. Nine started. A short head: half a length. Time —1.28. Railway Handicap, of 175 sovs; six furlongs.— (1-1) Te Hai, 8.0 (including 71b rehandicap), 1; (5-7) Bellkyrian, 7.8, 2; (2-3) Palustre, 7.7, 3. Seven started. Two lengths; a length and a half. Time—l.l2 4-5. After the race for the Motiti Handicap the owners of Desert Wings and Min Lu lodged a protest against the winner, Barricade, on the ground of interference in the straight! After hearing the evidence of the riders, the stewards decided that the occurrence was accidental and resolved that the two protests be dismissed, as they considered' that the interference made no difference to the result. ■ J. Winder, rider of Tosh, in the Herries Memorial Handicap, Was suspended for one month for careless riding.
