Mrs SIMPSONS FIRST DIVORCE
Professor on Recognition by English Law (Received 3 p.m.) LONDON, March 22. The withdrawal of an intervention in the Simpson divorce case unfortunately does not throw light on the validity of her first divorce, obtained at Warrenton, Virginia (U.S.A.), in 1927, in an undefended suit,” says Professor Bairiedale Keith, noted constitutional lawyer in a letter in the “Scotsman.” “The difficulty arises from the fact that the only American courts in the eyes of English law which are entitled to full recognition in a British court, are those in the State in which the husband is domiciled when proceedings were initiated. “It does not appear that the Simpson divorce was granted by such a State. If that is r so, the validity of the divorce in England and Scotland may be open to doubt.” He adds that it is highly desirable that such doubts should be removed.
