INTER-HOUSE COMPETITIONS

35 TEAMS IN SECTIONS
Exceptional interest has been taken by members of various organisations in Whangarei in the inter-house competitions being conducted by the North Auckland Lawn Tennis Association. Altogether 35 teams have entered. Of this number, 23 are men’s teams and the remaining twelve ladies’ teams. The competition has been so well received that several organisations have made more than one entry.
Two Sections For Ladies.
The management committee of the association had hoped to commence play before now, but pressure of other organisation has delayed the opening. Even as it was, a difficult task confronted them when it came to the final arrangements for the matches.
After much consideration ,it was decided to conduct the ladies’ matcKes in two sections of six teams, each team to play every other team in the same section and the winners of the sections to play off in the final.
Men’s Teams Graded.
The matches for the men’s teams, however, were more difficult, as there was quite a difference in the standards of play of what were considered the best and the weakest teams. To overcome this difficulty it was decided to place 11 men’s teams in an A grade and the remaining 12 teams in a B grade. It is hoped that this arrangement will encourage some of the weaker teams, who, otherwise, would have felt out of the running from the very start.
In the A. grade, play will be Th two sections of five and six teams, and'in the B. grade in two sections of six teams each. Teams and Sections.
