NEW CONVENT OPENED
GOLDEN JUBILEE OF MILL HILL
FATHERS
The golden jubilee of the arrival of the Mill Hill Fathers to commence their work in the Roman Catholic Diocese of Auckland. Was celebrated at Waitaruke, about six miles from Kaeo, yesterday. Bishop Liston, of Auckland, was present, and also opened the new conjvent which will in future be used [for the training of native girls for j the religious life. j Bishop Liston confirmed 110 chilI dren and about 12 adults at St. Frani cis Xavier’s Church, Whangarei, on I Sunday afternoon. On Monday he left for the North, and, in a large marquee at Waitaruke, was accorded a native welcome. On Tuesday he celebrated mass in the marquee, a large number of natives being present from all parts of New Zealand. There were also 35 priests present for the golden jubilee of the Mill Hill Fathers.
Among those present were Father Becker and Father Madden, two of the original fathers-. The Bishop celebrated mass at 10 a.m. Yesterday, ar>d also confirmed a number of Maori children and adults. In the afternoon the new convent was dedicated and blessed. The convent will be in charge of the Marist sisters.
