MINERS’ NO-STRIKE DECISION

At a meeting held last night, the representatives of miners from the Kamo Collieries Ltd., and Ruatangata Collieries Ltd., decided not to strike in regard to their demanded wage increase, and instead the. matter will be further discussed with the owners tonight.

The trouble arose last week. Some time ago a working agreement was mutually arranged by the Hikurangi Coal Co., Ltd., Kamo Collieries and Ruatangata Collieries, with 150 miners in their employ, and this restored the 1931 award rate. The miners then claimed another 10 per cent, which was recently granted miners in the Waikato and on the West Coast. At one stage the miners issued an ultimatum to go on strike, but this decision was postponed. It is understood that the miners in the Hikurangi Company have been granted the extra 10 per cent.
