The Essex wicket-keeper, T. H. Wade, who has bedn temporarily attached to the team, is playing in this match. Bradman is standing down from the local side owing to the death of his baby. The sides are:— England.—Allen (captain), Hammond, Verity, Fishlock, Hafdstaff, Worthington, Fagg, Barnett, Sims, Voce and Wade, with Fames as twelfth man. , - South Australia.—Richardson (captain), Badcock, Parker, Ryan, Waite, Hamence, Cotton, Grimmett, Ward, Walker and Moyle with Leake as twelfth man. ■ England won the toss and batted on a good wicket. The weather was threatening when play started. The visitors were dismissed for 233 runs in their first innings—Hammond making his third century of the tour —and South Australia had lost one wicket for 11 .runs when stumps.were drawn.
