OVATION FOR LANDON IN ENEMY’S CAMP

(Received 10 a.m.) NEW YORK, October 29. The final report on the straw poll of the “Literary Digest” in connection with the election is as follows: Mr A, M. Landon (Republican) 1.293,669 popular vote, and 370 Electoral College votes, carrying 32 States. Mr Roosevelt, 972,287 popular votes, 161 electoral college votes, carrying 16 States. The Republican candidate for the Presidency, Mr A, M. Landon, invaded Mr Roosevelt’s stronghold, New York, last evening and received a 10-minutes ovation. Mr Landon»charged the President with dislocating the American agricultural system and with rewarding scarcity and penalising plenty. He declared his own intentions to be to repair the damage done by Mr Roosevelt’s experiments. At the same time, Mr Roosevelt met with an extraordinarily enthusiastic reception at Philadelphia.
