The Lisbon correspondent of the British United Press says it is officially announced that Portugal has broken off diplomatic relations with the Madrid Government. Another message states that the Portuguese Government has ordered its Charge d’Affaires, who for some weeks has been stationed at Alicante,' to return to Lisbon immediately.

The Government’s reasons for the rupture with the Madrid Government are not revealed. It is merely, an- ; nounced that the full text of its Note will be published as soon as the opportunity arises.
