United were quick on the ball and never let an opportunity pass without a struggle. When they were threatened the defence was good. Saul saved well in goal. Soon after the bully off Fife made a neat run half the length of the field and a corner for United resulted. Patterson was overwhelmed and Tauraroa got clear. Again United went back in a strong rush, Hannam striving to place the ball in a favourable position. United were near to scoring. Tauraroa made a strong rush to the other end of the field and looked dangerous, but the defence was effective. United scored not long after, when Patterson carried the bas through to goal.—United 1, Tauraroa 0. The rest of the spell was a keen struggle for supremacy. Several times Howie and Rule were seen to advantage in strong Tauraroa rushes, but United were on the spot. Kelly and Smeale were clearing effectively. Wilson had several scoring attempts.
