DEFEAT OF TAURAROA
UNITED LOWER LEADERS’ COLOURS i ■ ; United lowered the colours of Tauraroa at Kensington Park by 4 goals to nil. The game was played at a fast pace and the winners’ persistent following up and better combination proved too much for Tauraroa’s more forceful methods. United were quick on the ball and never let an opportunity pass without a struggle. When they were threatened the defence was good. Saul saved well in goal. Soon after the bully off Fife made a neat run half the length of the field and a corner for United resulted. Patterson was overwhelmed and Tauraroa got clear. Again United went back in a strong rush, Hannam striving to place the ball in a favourable position. United were near to scoring. Tauraroa made a strong rush to the other end of the field and looked dangerous, but the defence was effective. United scored not long after, when Patterson carried the bas through to goal.—United 1, Tauraroa 0. The rest of the spell was a keen struggle for supremacy. Several times Howie and Rule were seen to advantage in strong Tauraroa rushes, but United were on the spot. Kelly and Smeale were clearing effectively. Wilson had several scoring attempts. Soon after resuming, Hannam car - ! ried the ball up the wing and scored | United’s second goal.—United 2, Tau- j raroa 0. } Tauraroa were struggling hard, but without result. Again United got away and Patterson shot accurately.—-United 3, Tauraroa 0. > Time was passing and Tauraroa made desperate efforts to make up the leeway. Once the ball was actually through, but they were called back for offside play, and then Saul was called upon to clear a hot shot. Soon after he saved again, deflecting a straight drive. Tauraroa forced a corner eventually, but United shifted the ball upfield and Hannam again got control, beating the goalie from wide out. —United 4, Tauraroa 0. Creamer got through on his own and looked dangerous but Tauraroa gained possession and cleared. The score was unaltered at the end. Mr A. J. Magee was referee.
