CALF CLUBS
The value of calf clubs in a dairying territory is beyond question. Such clubs afford a splendid means whereby children who are destined to be practically associated with the dairying industry when they are men and women should become interested in calves and instructed in the best methods of rearing those animals. Calf clubs have become very popular among school children in various parts of the Dominion where dairyfarming is carried on. It is only some two jears ago since the movement was taken up in Northland, but, as was shown at the annual meetling of the Whangarei group held ion Friday last, very encouraging ! progress has been made. It was | reported that last-year 23 schools i in the group presented 160 calves for judging purposes, while at the championship show held at Kensington there were 29 exhibits in the light breeds and five in the heavy breeds. This is a very creditable record. There will be a general hope that the club will go on to still greater success, and that clubs will be created in districts where they are so far not in existence. The j clubs are performing a fine work, i the value of which will be realised in future years.
