BOTH TEAMS SUFFER

CASUALTIES IN WHANGAREIUNITED GAME

There were several casualties in the match between United and Whangarei at Kensington Park. The game, however, was played in the best spirit and the mishaps were quite accidental. Whangarei were one short at the commencement. From the bully off United went to Whangarei’s circle and began to look dangerous. Within five minutes they scored from a corner, Wilson stopping for Fyfe to goal.—United 1, Whahgarel 0. Whangarei made a thrust through, but United soon took the upper hand again. Fyfe hit up for Hannam to make a promising run. Whangarei stepped well, however, and returned to attack. There was a halt while Dempster was attended to for a hit on the knee. He had to retire. Hewlett had a shot which went in, but he was off side. He looked dangerous again a little later, but United got clear. Whangarei were now two short and were putting up a great fight. Creamer took United up the line in a fast run, but the ball went behind. Again Whangarei rushed up and Hewlett goaled, but the whistle had just blown a second before. United then turned round, and Creamer went through to score, — United 2, Whangarei 0. Once again Whangarei came back and Sloane had a hard shot. The direction was not quite accurate. United, after a -pell of defending, got to Whangarei’s circle again and, in a struggle, Wilsor hit in to score.—United 3, Whangarei 0. There was another halt immediately after when J. Patterson was hurt and had to leave the field. On resuming after half-time, United nearly scored when Hannam had a shot, but missed the goal. At this stage Burton was also injured on the leg, and Whangarei now had only eight men. United scored again a minute later from a corner. Wilson stopping for Fyfe to slam the ball home.—United 4, Whangarei 0. Primmer saved two hot shots from Wilson and Creamer. Then Wilson got into position again and netted without mistake—United 5, Whangarei 0. Wilson goaled again soon after but was offside. However, the same player centred for Fyfe in the next fhove, and United were 6 up.

Whangarei opened their scoring account when play went back to United’s circle, and Sloane got in from a melee.—United 6, Whangarei 1. And then United scored again, Fyfe breaking through past Primmer.—United 7, Whangarei 1. Whangarei were not finished, however, and after a spell of defensive work, Sloane had a clear shot and scored. — United 7, Whangarei 2". When the final whistle sounded United were pressing. Messrs Batchelor and Campbell refereed.
