BEAT RAMBLERS BY GOAL Tauraroa beat Ramblers by 1 goal to nil at Kensington Park. The game was hard fought and neither team displayed •- much science. Play opened quickly with the ball ‘■peedily going to Tauraroa’s hal Ramblers were feeling their way and were several times within striking distance. . Tauraroa made a strong attack and had a chance when Ramblers’ goal was uncovered. A. Kelly managed to clear. There was a further period of even and uninteresting play and then Tauraroa got a corner. Ramblers’ half cleared and then the blacks came back in a strong rush. A free hit just outside the circle gave them an opportunity and J. Rule got a shot home with the goal free. —Tauroroa 1, Ramblers 0. Ramblers immediately went to the other end, Presswood gaining' a lot of ground by hard hitting. Ramblers were fighting hard, and Bright and Bracken, were having a lot of work to do on thdir side of the field. Two corners produced no result, Tauraroa’s defence being most sure. And so Ramblers battled but without result, and Tauraroa came back and nearly scored themselves, Rule doing well. At half-time Tauraroa still led. Tauraroa started off the second spell with a rush and missed scoring by an inch. The game soon settled down to a dour battle, With both sides pressing, .» though Ramblers did not seem able to work out any effective sort of combination. Once or twice they got away, but never managed to break through. ■ The game was being pulled up frequently for sticks and other breaches. Bright was well marked, but once or twice he had chances which failed. Right up till time was called both sides fought out scrappy battles in noman’s land but without adding to the score, and some time before the end, it became obvious that Ramblers could not pull the game out of the fire.
