THE JUNIORS

The. curtain-raiser at Kensington Park was a bright duel between two undefeated junior teams —Hikurangi and City. Hikurangi carried too many guns for the opposition, scoring nine points ( a good blind side try by Pomfrett, a forward try by McGee and a penalty goal kicked by Cunningham), without their line being crossed.

Onerahi, also, are undefeated, although in their home match on Saturday they were on the wrong side of the ledger until a quarter of an hour before time. Waiotira were then leading by two tries to one, none of the scores having been converted. Mason equalised with a penalty, and, in the last few minutes, Borrie struggled over for his second try for Onerahi. It was a willing forward go on a heavy ground. # $ * At Waikiekie two teams, who had yet to score their first points on the competition ladder, met. Thanks to an improvement in their pack, Waikiekie romped home by 16 points to nil over Whatitiri. * * * * . In the early stages of their game with Hora Hora, High School won the ball from the scrums, but cross-field passing prevented them from penetrating. N. Boyd dropped a good field goal to open the score for Hora Hora. The School backs were seen to advantage in a movement which ended in Rogers, scoring. Hora Hora then set up a hot attack, and just before the interval Harvey bullocked his way across. When the game resumed Boyd first missed an easy penalty and then missed with a drop kick. A dangerous School passing movement down the right wing ended with H. Findlay pushing Alison into touch. Hora Hora forwards carried play back, and D. Findlay, running at top, fielded a clearing kick, drew the defence and cross-kicked for N. Boyd to receive, beat the full-back and send H. Findlay over. The kick missed by inches. The School backs swung into action, the wing beating his man and drawing Webster’s tackle to pass infield 1 to Thoi-nley, a nice try- resulting. Alison converted, making the final score: — Hora Hora 10, High School 8.
